Value investing is the process of buying stock at a low value, particularly below book value on speculation. This process of investing on speculation was devised and taught by Ben Graham and David Dodd at the Columbia Business School as early as 1928. There has been a lot of debate on actually how a book value, or intrinsic value, was arrived at. Now value investing works best for businesses which have tangible assets, or assets which physically exist.
