The Better Business Bureau was founded in 1912. There are many franchises throughout North America which work through the parent corporation: the Council of Better Business Bureaus. The purpose of the BBB is to gather information it receives on businesses nationally and locally. It provides information on the ethical business practices and reliability. The bureau also alerts the public to frauds which have taken place. Also the bureau will act as a neutral mediator between businesses and customer involved in disputes.
